Avengers 2- New Recruits

Spoiler Alert- if you have not seen The Avengers, turn back or scroll instantly to the characters!

I do not know why it should surprise anyone, but I am sure there are writers already thinking about the script of one of the biggest box office movies of the 2012 summer season- The Avengers. It had action, comedy, craziness, laughter, drama. Do not tell me that a part of you did not cheer when Hulk tossed Loki around like a rag doll or you were not a bit sadden when Agent Phil was stabbed. Besides, it made money! So while the heroes continue with their individual movie franchises, I am sure they will be reunited for a sequel.

However, will all of them return? Iron Man will most certainly return- he is arrogant and sometimes juvenile, but he brings the funny commentary, money and partial brains. Captain America brings the leadership and the wholesome quality (though I am not sure how his solo act in our present world will work out in his own sequel).  The Hulk is the muscles (and Banner is the sensitive scientist beneath the green beast). Black Widow brought the sex appeal plus the strong female presence to the group. Thor brought the hammer... and - let's admit it- some more eye candy. Hawkeye was sort of the redemption story- turned evil at the beginning of the movie and has to atone for his actions at the end. So what does all this mean? Who could not return and not many people will notice. I say Thor and Hawkeye. Yes, both actors are easy on the eyes, but what did their characters really bring to the team?

I know, I know, they each have their own fan base but let's just see who could join the team in the sequel:

Ant-Man is a member of The Avengers in the comic world plus there is an Ant-Man movie scheduled to be released in 2015. Perfect timing! Depending on who they get to play the lead role, we can have some more eye candy. Okay, I admit it- a super hero named Ant-Man is kind of laughable, but the writers of the screenplay claim that the movie is not going be a spoof, there is going to be some humor and action which fits pretty well with the current Marvel Movie Universe.

If you have not heard- there is going to be a reboot of the Fantastic Four. Before you go up in arms about how many reboots Hollywood is making (Superman, Spiderman, Judge Dredd, Robocop, etc.) don't want to hear about it. I watched the previous two Fantastic Four movies. They were not bad entertainment, but nothing to rave about. The entire group cannot just join The Avengers all of a sudden, though. Sue and Reed can stay at home together. A face off between Thing and Hulk could be hilarious. Yet, I feel like the Human Torch might fit in better. Now that Chris Evans has traded in his blazing blue spandex for patriotic blue spandex, it could be interesting to see him play opposite of his replacement.

And how can I not mention the latest reboot franchise- Spiderman. I know there are fans who will always see Tobey as the web-slinger, but I loved Andrew's portrayal of the wall climber. He can be the new punk kid who thinks he knows it all about the hero business while the older guys school him in what's really up.

However, I've noticed the franchise is lacking in the female empowerment. Black Widow is amazing, but she is not the only female who has bite. The women of X-men are no strangers to The Avengers. Ororo and Rogue have been part of the team. However, I am going to say it- though I love Halle Berry- I was disappointed in her portrayal of Ororo. Storm is a statuesque warrior who should demand attention when she enters the room. She is after all the Weather Goddess. Then there is Rogue, one of my favorite x-men characters. Her sassy southern style was somewhat limited in the X-men movies. However, there is one female from the x-men stories that was not featured in their movies but is known as an Avenger- Scarlet Witch. Look up this powerful lady if you have not heard of her.

But they are not the only females who can join Black Widow in the almost men's only club. There is Wasp. Though I have not heard about them making a movie for her, she can still show up, just like how Hawkeye appeared in the first Avengers movie (2012).

Who would like you like to suit up with the team?
