Avengers 2- New Recruits: X-Women

X-WOMEN

Before, I mentioned that The Avengers needed more females and I recommended introducing one of the women from the X-men. There are so many x-women to choose from: Rogue, Storm, Shadowcat, Emma Frost, etc. The true question is which x-men would be the best candidate.

However, with the new developments of the upcoming addition to the X-men franchise- Days of Future Past, the candidates are growing. If you have not heard yet, so far the plan is for the X-men of New Class and the X-men from the previous trilogy to return and merge for this new movie. Currently the confirmed X-Women include:

Rogue (played by Anna Paquin) Shadowcat (played by Ellen Page) Mystique (played by Jennifer Lawrence)

Right now, its' only rumored that we might see:
Storm (played by Halle Berry) Emma Frost (played by January Jones)

Since this new movie is based on the comic of the same name where the Sentinels, time traveling and mutant hunts- possibly we can get some clues of who to expect from the source.

For instance, in the future Kitty Pryde is traveling from, there is Rachel Summers- the child of Scott Summers and Jean Grey (who both died in the third movie so it would be interesting if they come back too).

Avengers 2- New Recruits: Wasp

The Wasp

Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp, is one of the founding members of The Avengers along with her partner Henry Pym aka Ant-Man in the comics. Originally, a flighty heiress, this unlikely hero joined forces with Dr. Pym to avenge her father. Shortly after, she fell in love with Ant-Man who was not as excited to jump into love after losing so many people close to him, including his first wife.

With the Ant-Man movie coming, I am confident that Wasp will be making an appearance as well.

Rachel Nichols has been in and out of action movies for a few years now. She was the green, sexy Gaila in Star Trek, the no nonsense Scarlett in G.I. Joe, and Tamara is the almost forgettable remake of Conan the Barbarian. I'm sure she will have no problem suiting up and shrinking herself in a black and yellow unitard.

Sophia Bush's calendar appears to be clearing up soon if her new show does not return. After 10 years playing the redeemable vixen on One Tree Hill, I think she can fit into the role of Janet Van Dyne pretty nicely. Plus, she does have the body to pull off spandex.

Speaking of hot brunettes who have become famous through their scene-stealing, spoiled characters on hit television shows, Leighton Meester I believe is one of those under rated actresses. As Blair, she has given heart and a sense of fun to a character who should not be likeable but turned out to be loveable. With the right roles and timing, who knows what her future will lead to.

Amber Heard is another hot lady who I think just needs to break from her short lived television how The Playboy Club. It should not be a big leap from a satin bunny outfit to a super hero uniform.

Brooklyn Decker has been in some interesting movie choices: Battleship, What to Expect When You're Expecting, and Just Go With It to name a few. However, you cannot deny she is a pretty actress.

Avengers 2- New Recruits: The Human Torch

The Human Torch

Like I mentioned before, there are plans to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise. If this does get off the floor, the Human Torch can be another lively member to add onto the Avengers cast. He is the youngest of the Fantastic Four usually characterized as being brash, impetuous and fun-loving. Chris Evans brought him to life in 2005 and 2007, but who can light him up in his next re-incarnation?

Justin Chambers is one option. He has that cute, cocky smirk down pat as he has demonstrated over and over again on Grey's Anatomy. He's relatively young and can show dimensions of this character. We know he has the looks. After all he is a former Calvin Klein model. Plus as Doctor Karev, he has been giving the Dr. Mc's a run for their money sometimes.

Another option is Emile Hirsch. This young actor is amazing and has proven it in movies like Milk and Into The Wild, but he also doesn't mind being in cartoon-like movies which was demonstrated when he played the title role of Speed Racer.

Sam Claflin is an up and coming actor who shined in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, showed his stuff in Snow White and The Huntsman, and is now bringing to life Finnick in Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He has played the good, trust worthy guy, lets see if he can play the good boy with attitude.

Jim Sturgess amazed me in Cloud Atlas and he was fun to watch in 21. Now, can I picture him suiting up in a tight blue spandex suit and scream out, at the top of his lungs, "Flame on!" Maybe not, but I am willing to give him the chance.

Not many might have heard of him outside the loyal fanbase of the the Syfy show Merlin, but Bradley James is a young actor who can do well. He has been honing his skills playing the arrogant Arthur character who is forced to grow up and mature so he may lead his kingdom. These traits can lend themselves to the Human Torch. Plus, I like the idea of not-well known actors getting their breaks in well known franchises.

Who do you think should be The Human Torch?

Avengers 2- New Recruits: Ant-Man

ANT-MAN

Since the Ant-Man film is still scheduled to be filmed, it is not a long shot to see Ant-Man battle scientific wit with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in Avengers 2. According to sources last year, filming of this movie could have started this month. However, since there is no confirmation on who will be the titled role, I think it's safe to continue putting in our two cents. Now the question we must ask ourselves is who can we see standing toe to toe with Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo in the science lab.

One front runner in several fans' opinion is Nathan Fillion . Many fans have been rallying behind this pick since the mention of the Ant-Man movie coming into fruition. Some have said he doesn't have the name to carry such a movie but you cannot deny he has an army of committed and loyal fans from Firefly and Castle. And some fans of Desperate Housewives and One Life To Live might also recognize this great actor.
There was also a rumor that Adrien Brody is a front runner for the role. No one can deny he is an amazing actor who is known for playing intellectuals and/or artistic types. However, can he be a believable super hero? Possibly. He does have an atypical sexiness about him.
Another name that had been thrown into the gauntlet is Jared Padalecki. After crisscrossing the nation with his TV brother following super natural occurrences, is this actor ready to hold down a full-length, action pack super hero movie? Who knows? He has the good looks, but he also still holds that boy-next-door appeal. However, would he look like an infant in the lab next to Downy and Ruffalo? Perhaps.
Now, can you picture Bradley Cooper brandishing red tights and antennas on his head? We know he has the acting chops and incredible comedy timing. His name brings a legions of followers so we know he can star in a big film.

Next, for your consideration is a man who has already donned spandex in another movie: Patrick Wilson. He has the looks and the talent. I believe it will be easy to picture him in either a lab coat or an ant mask. However, how many people know him by name?

What do you think? Who should be the next Ant-Man in 2015? Any of these guys or your own pick?

Avengers 2- New Recruits

Spoiler Alert- if you have not seen The Avengers, turn back or scroll instantly to the characters!

I do not know why it should surprise anyone, but I am sure there are writers already thinking about the script of one of the biggest box office movies of the 2012 summer season- The Avengers. It had action, comedy, craziness, laughter, drama. Do not tell me that a part of you did not cheer when Hulk tossed Loki around like a rag doll or you were not a bit sadden when Agent Phil was stabbed. Besides, it made money! So while the heroes continue with their individual movie franchises, I am sure they will be reunited for a sequel.

However, will all of them return? Iron Man will most certainly return- he is arrogant and sometimes juvenile, but he brings the funny commentary, money and partial brains. Captain America brings the leadership and the wholesome quality (though I am not sure how his solo act in our present world will work out in his own sequel).  The Hulk is the muscles (and Banner is the sensitive scientist beneath the green beast). Black Widow brought the sex appeal plus the strong female presence to the group. Thor brought the hammer... and - let's admit it- some more eye candy. Hawkeye was sort of the redemption story- turned evil at the beginning of the movie and has to atone for his actions at the end. So what does all this mean? Who could not return and not many people will notice. I say Thor and Hawkeye. Yes, both actors are easy on the eyes, but what did their characters really bring to the team?

I know, I know, they each have their own fan base but let's just see who could join the team in the sequel:

Ant-Man is a member of The Avengers in the comic world plus there is an Ant-Man movie scheduled to be released in 2015. Perfect timing! Depending on who they get to play the lead role, we can have some more eye candy. Okay, I admit it- a super hero named Ant-Man is kind of laughable, but the writers of the screenplay claim that the movie is not going be a spoof, there is going to be some humor and action which fits pretty well with the current Marvel Movie Universe.

If you have not heard- there is going to be a reboot of the Fantastic Four. Before you go up in arms about how many reboots Hollywood is making (Superman, Spiderman, Judge Dredd, Robocop, etc.) don't want to hear about it. I watched the previous two Fantastic Four movies. They were not bad entertainment, but nothing to rave about. The entire group cannot just join The Avengers all of a sudden, though. Sue and Reed can stay at home together. A face off between Thing and Hulk could be hilarious. Yet, I feel like the Human Torch might fit in better. Now that Chris Evans has traded in his blazing blue spandex for patriotic blue spandex, it could be interesting to see him play opposite of his replacement.

And how can I not mention the latest reboot franchise- Spiderman. I know there are fans who will always see Tobey as the web-slinger, but I loved Andrew's portrayal of the wall climber. He can be the new punk kid who thinks he knows it all about the hero business while the older guys school him in what's really up.

However, I've noticed the franchise is lacking in the female empowerment. Black Widow is amazing, but she is not the only female who has bite. The women of X-men are no strangers to The Avengers. Ororo and Rogue have been part of the team. However, I am going to say it- though I love Halle Berry- I was disappointed in her portrayal of Ororo. Storm is a statuesque warrior who should demand attention when she enters the room. She is after all the Weather Goddess. Then there is Rogue, one of my favorite x-men characters. Her sassy southern style was somewhat limited in the X-men movies. However, there is one female from the x-men stories that was not featured in their movies but is known as an Avenger- Scarlet Witch. Look up this powerful lady if you have not heard of her.

But they are not the only females who can join Black Widow in the almost men's only club. There is Wasp. Though I have not heard about them making a movie for her, she can still show up, just like how Hawkeye appeared in the first Avengers movie (2012).

Who would like you like to suit up with the team?
